YUYUJAE - A Tranquil House

유유재(𤘜有齋)_고요하게 자리한 집

배경(背景)을 살피다_ 도․농 경계부에 위치한 집
순천은 수려한 자연을 가진 거대한 정원이다. 철새의 낙원 순천만, 드넓은 황금빛 논과 밭, 한국의 산지승원 선암사. 자연 풍경과 함께하는 도시, 순천의 지역 거주민은 문 앞을 나서는 순간 커다란 마당이자 정원과 마주하게 된다. 도시 특성을 고려하여 계획단계에서 부지에 주어진 다양한 차원의 배경(背景)을 먼저 살폈다. 특히 유유재(𤘜有齋)가 자리 잡은 동네는 도시 끝자락에 위치하여 도시와 농경지의 경계라는 도시적 맥락을 바탕으로 한다. 도시와 농경지의 상반된 풍경, 상반된 밀도 경계에 위치해 시각적 배경을 누리고 담아낸다.

기능은 전형적인 상가주택으로, 학업과 직장으로 인해 흩어져 있던 세 남매가 다시 모여 이곳에 터를 잡게 되었다. 3, 4층에 세 남매가 살 수 있는 다가구를 계획하는 동시에 1, 2층은 수익성을 고려한 최대 면적으로 경제적 안정성을 확보하면서도 동네에서 다양한 기능을 수행할 수 있는 근린생활시설을 배치했다.

배경을 누리다
상층부는 주택이라는 특성을 고려했다. 내밀한 내부 공간의 특성을 반영한 창, 각 층마다 여러 방향으로 뻗어있는 테라스, 그리고 쉼 공간을 적절히 배치하여 부지에 주어진 시각적 배경을 온전히 누린다. 특히 일조권 사선제한으로 인한 4층 주택의 내부 이격은 새로운 공간 활용의 기회가 되었다. 이격으로 인한 자연스러운 틈새는 사방을 돌아볼 수 있는 동선이 되고, 내·외부 연결성을 높인다.

동네의 배경이 되다
유유재(𤘜有齋)는 고요할 유(𤘜), 있을 유(有), 집 재(齋)로 이름과 같이 그 자체로 고요하게 자리한 집이다. 유유재는 도로부로 입면을 반듯하게 면한 여타 건축물의 화려함과 달리 단순하고 절제된 형태로 자리한다. 외관이 특별하진 않지만 주변 건축물과 조금은 다른 재료, 재질감을 통해 존재감을 드러내고자 했다. 천천히 걸으며 만나는 유유재의 입면이 동네를 거니는 보행자의 흥미를 불러일으키는, 오래된 동네를 거닐다 만나는 새로운 배경이 되길 기대한다.

Looking Around Background
– A House Placed in Urban-Rural Border
Suncheon is a huge garden with beautiful nature. It has Suncheonman Bay of migratory birds, vast golden rice paddies and fields, and the Buddhist Mountain monastery named Seonamsa Temple. As a city surrounded by natural landscape, the local residents of Suncheon meet huge yards and gardens as soon as they take a step from the front door. The planning began with exploring the backgrounds at different levels in consideration of the city’s characteristics. Especially, the town where YUYUJAE is located is on the edge of city, and it has urban context as a border between urban and rural areas. With contrasting urban and rural views and contrasting density boundaries, the town captures rural and urban visual backgrounds.

The house functions as a typical commercial building, and it was built as three siblings, who were scattered due to studies and works, decided to live together. The third and fourth floors are designed as a multi-household house for three siblings. The first and second floors have neighborhood living facilities with the maximum area for economic stability and functionality in consideration of profitability.

Capturing Background
The upper floors were designed in consideration of housing characteristics. The windows protect private spaces, and each floor is designed with terrace in different directions and resting areas to fully enjoy the visual background. Especially, the fourth floor has a separated space to keep the right of light, and this space enabled utilization of a new space. This spare space closely connects inner and outer spaces, and you can look around the house in all directions from this space.

Becoming Background of Town
The name, YUYUJAE, means a house of tranquility. As the name shows, YUYUJAE stands in peaceful and tranquil state. The house may not seem special in appearance but it makes presence by using materials and textures different from surrounding buildings. As you slowly pass by YUYUJAE, its façade changes in different directions, and it will function as a scenery that adds vitality and interests the pedestrians.
