화록당(和綠堂) 2026.2

Hwarokdang

 

 

 

“화록당”은 푸른 잔디 위에 지어진 집에서 가족들이 화목하게 지내고 싶은 소망이 담긴 건축주의 작명이다. “자연의 푸름과 조화를 이루는 집”의 정원·마당과의 관계를 고려하여 가족의 삶을 담아낼 수 있는 공간을 만들고자 했다.

4인 가족이 거주하는 프로그램으로 2022년 설계를 시작해, 2025년 완공된 연면적 475제곱미터, 지하 1층, 지상 2층의 주택이다.
대지의 남측은 8미터 도로, 북측은 페어웨이로 시야가 개방되어 있으며, 동, 서측은 인접세대로 이웃 간의 프라이버시를 고려해야 했으며, 단독주택으로서 가질 수 있는 이야기를 더하자 했다.

 

가까운 자연
전면이 좁은 직사각형 형태의 대지에 썬큰가든, 중정, 테라스를 구성하여 자연과 소통하고자 했다. 도로 측 썬큰가든은 취미실을, 거실, 식당, 주방은 중정과 테라스로 연결되어 채광·환기를 확보하며, 확장된 공간감을 제공한다.

 

완충공간
도로에서 출입구가 즉각적으로 드러나지 않는 구성으로, 마당-포치–현관–내부로 이어지는 시각·심리적 완충을 통해 외부와 내부의 경계를 완화하였다. 중정, 거실, 테라스의 중첩되는 배치로 시선은 단계적으로 깊이를 인식하고, 내부공간은 확정된다.

 

형태
단지 정체성 확립을 위한 경관상세계획으로 지붕형태/색채 및 재료에 대한 지침 내에서 평면의 공간감을 자연스럽게 표현했다. 보편적 주거의 상징인 박공지붕으로 ‘집’으로의 원형적 형태를 추구하였다.

Hwarokdang is a name chosen by the client to express the wish for a harmonious family life in a house set on green grass. Conceived as “a home in harmony with the green of nature,” the project sought to create spaces that could fully embrace family life, with careful attention to the relationship between the garden and the courtyard.
Designed for a family of four, the house was planned beginning in 2022 and completed in 2025. It has a total floor area of 475 square meters, with one basement level and two stories above ground. The site faces an 8-meter-wide road to the south and opens toward a fairway to the north, allowing broad views. The east and west sides are adjacent to neighboring houses, requiring careful consideration of privacy. Within these conditions, the project aimed to add its own narrative as a single-family home.

Close to Nature
On a narrow rectangular site with a limited frontage, a sunken garden, courtyard, and terraces were introduced to encourage close interaction with nature. The sunken garden along the road side serves the hobby room, while the living room, dining area, and kitchen connect directly to the courtyard and terraces. This arrangement secures natural light and ventilation while offering an expanded sense of space.

Buffer Spaces
Rather than revealing the entrance directly from the street, the approach was designed as a sequence—from yard to porch, entrance, and interior—creating visual and psychological buffers. Through the layered arrangement of courtyard, living room, and terrace, views gain depth step by step, gradually defining the interior space.

Form
Within the landscape guidelines governing roof forms, colors, and materials for the residential complex, the plan naturally expresses spatial openness. By adopting a gabled roof—an archetypal symbol of the house—the design pursues a familiar yet essential form of dwelling.
