Located in the tranquil village of Mangmili in Yangpyeong County, Gyeonggi-do, the site is characterized by its seclusion and serenity. The homeowners, a retired couple who decided to spend their post-career years cultivating fruit trees here, envisioned a project that would include community facilities, a greenhouse, and a camping area. The most critical element of this site is the lush greenery. The trees that have taken root and grown here for an extended period of time hold the memories of this place. It is our aspiration that the architecture nestled in this land resembles these trees, particularly the pine trees.

A Tree-Inspired Form – A Combination of Wall and Roof in an Equilateral Triangle (60°)
Trees, with their diverse species, forms, and characteristics, are symbolic of nature’s rich tapestry. However, the most universally recognized and primitive form of a tree is its triangular, geometric shape. Geometry is both complete and, at the same time, a simple form. The equilateral triangle, which is the most complete form of this geometrical shape, demonstrated the potential for walls and roofs to merge at various angles. With a 60-degree incline, approximately 6.1 meters of structural wood – the size commonly used in lightweight timber structures – can be installed without loss, allowing for the creation of one to two usable floors. The ambiguous boundary between walls and roofs in this equilateral triangle shape minimizes the complexity of the timber structure’s construction process.

Warm Wooden Finishes
The first impression of wood finishes is warmth. While there may be variations in texture depending on the species, wood, in general, provides a warm tactile experience. The wood used for internal and external walls, roof structures, floor, and staircase finishes in this project consists of five different species: Chinese cedar, spruce, pine, red pine, and oak.

Scattered Trees and Forest-like Arrangement
The positioning of the buildings on the sloping terrain began with the consideration of how to seat each mass. Entry to the site is designed to gradually ascend from the lowest point along the slope. We aimed to create a distinctive sequence for the buildings that one would perceive upon entry. The mass at the front, prominently visible from the entrance, is harmonious with nature by adapting to the surrounding trees. The clustered buildings, resembling pine canopies, blend seamlessly with the nearby greenery, fostering a harmonious relationship with the adjacent trees and the environment over time.

Iteogol and Mangmi Farm
Nestled in a valley known as Iteogol, the Mangmi Farm harmoniously integrates with the surrounding hills and mountains. This architecture’s commitment to coexisting with nature is evident in the exposed wooden frame structure and curtain walls, which bridge the gap between the interior and the external environment. The Mangmi Farm aspires to age gracefully in conjunction with the natural world, always seeking to coexist harmoniously and naturally in this land.
