건축의 본질
대지는 서울시 강남구 논현동의 한 경사지이다. 기존의 단독주택을 철거하고 지하 2개 층과 지상 3개 층의 사옥을 짓는 프로젝트를 진행하였다.

대지의 중앙부에 중정을 구축하여 세장형의 대지를 앞·뒤로 분할하여 점유하였다. 또한 후면부에 썬큰을 두어 지하 2층까지 자연광을 도입하고, 자연환기가 가능토록 구성하였다.

외장재는 화강석 판재를 여러 모듈로 줄눈 커팅을 하고, 표면 마감의 차이를 통해 입면에 변주를 주어 구성하였다. 묵직한 양감을 통해 건축의 존재감을 부여하고, 미시적인 텍스처의 변화를 통해 작은 생동감을 부여했다.

경사 대지의 이점을 활용해 지상 1층 같은 지하 1층을 구성, 대지의 경제적 가치를 고양시키고자 하였다.

정직하고 순수하며 명확한 볼륨을 구축하고, 평면적 깊이감의 변화를 주어, 빛의 변화에 따른 입면의 음률 생성을 도모했다.

건축은 정제되고 정련되어 비로소 고요한 모습으로 도시 속에 겸허히 뿌리내릴 때, 건축의 본질적인 항구성과 영속성을 내포하며 도시 요소의 근간으로 숨 쉴 수 있다고 생각한다.

The Essence of Architecture
The site is located on a sloped terrain in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The project involved demolishing an existing detached house and constructing a corporate building with two basement levels and three above-ground floors.

 

A central courtyard was established in the middle of the site, dividing the elongated plot into front and rear sections. Additionally, a sunken space was introduced at the rear, allowing natural light to penetrate down to the second basement level and enabling natural ventilation.

 

For the exterior, granite panels were cut into various modular joints, with surface finishes applied differently to create variations in the façade. The solid mass conveys a strong architectural presence, while subtle textural variations add a sense of vibrancy.

 

By leveraging the advantages of the sloped site, a basement floor that functions like a ground-level first floor was designed, maximizing the economic value of the land.

 

The goal was to establish an honest, pure, and clearly defined architectural volume while introducing depth variations in the spatial plan to generate rhythmic façade changes in response to shifting light.

 

Architecture, when refined and meticulously crafted, ultimately takes root in the city with a quiet and humble presence. It is in this state imbued with its intrinsic permanence and continuity that architecture can breathe as a fundamental element of the urban fabric.
