설계 배경
수능리 단독주택 ‘한 장 한 장’의 건축주는 도시에서 벗어나 자연과 함께하는 삶을 살고자 하였습니다. 경기도 양평군 서종면 수능리에 자리한 ‘한 장 한 장’은 북한강 줄기를 따라 이어지는 샛길 끝자락에 위치해 있으며, 산자락에 안겨있어 사계절의 변화가 뚜렷하게 드러나고 마을의 이웃들과 자연스럽게 어우러지는 분위기를 지닙니다. 건축주는 이곳에서 반려견 ‘순이’와 함께 평온한 일상을 보내고 싶어 하였고, ‘한 장 한 장’은 활동적인 취미와 삶의 방식이 고스란히 담긴 집, 일상의 쉼표가 되는 공간을 만드는 것을 목표로 설계를 진행하였습니다. 

대지 여건
수능리 ‘한 장 한 장’의 대지는 전면도로와 약 1.5미터에서 2미터의 단차가 존재하여 경사로를 통해 진입하게 되어 있습니다. 기존의 노후한 석축과 옹벽은 보강토 옹벽으로 정비 및 보강이 필요해 보였습니다. 
산자락에 자리 잡은 지형적 특성상 탁 트인 시야와 풍부한 일조를 확보할 수 있는 여건을 갖추고 있었습니다. 이러한 대지의 이점을 극대화하기 위해 건물을 최대한 후면으로 배치하였습니다. 이를 통해 확보된 넓은 전면 마당은 건축물과 외부 환경 사이의 완충 지대이자, 건축주님과 반려견 ‘순이’의 다채로운 활동을 담아내는 비워진 공간으로서의 역할을 수행합니다. 
경사지 특성상 후면에도 옹벽이 인접해 있는 상황을 고려하여, 거실과 침실, 서재 등 주요 생활공간을 전면에 배치함으로써 후면의 옹벽이 주는 시각적 답답함은 해소하고, 대지가 가진 조망적 이점은 최대한 살릴 수 있도록 설계했습니다. 

주택 계획
‘한 장 한 장’은 단순히 거주를 위한 장소를 넘어, 흐르는 계절과 주변의 풍경을 온전히 느낄 수 있는 공간이 되어야 했습니다. 건축주는 주차장에서 실내로 곧장 연결되는 편리한 진입 구조와 캠핑 및 운동 장비를 보관할 수 있는 넉넉한 수납창고를 원했습니다. 부엌과 다용도실을 유기적으로 묶어 가사 동선의 효율을 높이는 한편, 내부 어디서든 큰 창을 통해 마당과 자연을 마주할 수 있도록 설계했습니다. 여기에 공간마다 섬세하게 계획된 색채와 조명은 깊은 감성을 더합니다. 
외관은 마을의 풍경 속에 부드럽게 스며들도록 붉은 계열의 벽돌을 메인 자재로 선택했습니다. 이 벽돌은 시간의 흐름과 빛의 각도에 따라 그 표정을 달리하며, 특히 해 질 녘이면 한층 깊고 따뜻한 톤으로 물들어 전체적으로 따스한 느낌을 줍니다. 차고 벽면까지 동일한 재료를 연장하여 외부와 내부가 단절되지 않고 하나의 흐름으로 이어지는 시각적 연속성을 부여했습니다. 
집의 매스는 내부 기능에 따라 세밀하게 나누되, 이를 지붕선 하나로 크게 아우름으로써 전체적인 조형미를 완성했습니다. 차고에서 현관, 창고를 거쳐 실내로 이어지는 동선은 마치 길을 걷듯 자연스럽고 명확합니다. 

실별 특징
현관을 들어서면 가장 먼저 마주하는 서재는 집의 전체적인 분위기와는 다른 반전의 매력을 선사합니다. 오렌지색으로 마감된 벽과 천장은 창의적인 에너지를 불어넣고, 짙은 초록색 커튼이 강렬한 색채 대비를 이루며 예술적 감성을 완성합니다. 특히 코너창을 통해 두 방향으로 열린 시선은 계절의 변화를 파노라마처럼 담아내며, 커튼을 조절함에 따라 시시각각 변하는 빛의 양이 공간의 분위기를 세밀하게 조정합니다. 
거실의 대형 창은 외부의 사계절을 실내로 적극적으로 끌어들입니다. 봄날에는 부드러운 햇살이, 겨울에는 눈이 내린 풍경이 마당을 통해 거실로 들어옵니다. 주방은 세련된 초록색 타일과 간살 슬라이딩 도어를 매치해 차분하면서도 감각적인 포인트를 주었습니다. 화이트 톤의 가구와 어우러진 주방은 다용도실과 유기적으로 연결되어, 가사 효율을 높일 수 있도록 동선을 계획하였습니다. 
안방은 짙은 녹색의 벽면으로 감싸져 있어, 들어서는 순간 심리적인 안정감을 느낄 수 있습니다. 외부와 접한 면에는 목재 펜스를 설치해 사생활을 완벽히 보호하고, 드레스룸과 자연스럽게 연결하여 사적인 영역이 이어질 수 있도록 하였습니다. 
거실 옆 마당은 이 집의 또 다른 주인공인 반려견 ‘순이’를 위한 특별한 무대입니다. 지붕 아래 마련된 외부 공간은 비나 눈을 피할 수 있는 처마 역할을 하며, 데크와 잔디가 이어져 실내외를 자유롭게 연결합니다. 거실에서 마당을 달리는 순이를 바라보며, 사람과 반려견의 일상이 자연스럽게 겹칠 수 있도록 하였습니다. 
집 안팎으로 섬세하게 배치된 조명은 시간과 날씨에 따라 집의 표정을 바꿉니다. 지붕 아래 매입등은 밤이 되면 마당을 은은하게 비추고, 벽면을 따라 리듬감 있게 배치된 벽부등은 건축물의 질감을 살려줍니다. 따뜻한 색온도의 조명은 어두운 밤에도 공간을 부드럽게 감싸, 마치 집이 숨을 쉬는 듯한 인상을 줍니다.

Design Background
The client for the single-family house “Han Jang Han Jang” in Suneung-ri hoped to leave the city behind and live a life closer to nature. Located in Suneung-ri, Seojong-myeon, Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do, the house sits at the end of a narrow road that follows the Bukhangang River. Nestled against the foot of a mountain, the site clearly reveals the changing seasons and naturally blends into the atmosphere of the village and its neighbors. The client wanted to enjoy a peaceful daily life here with her dog, Suni. The design of “Han Jang Han Jang” was therefore guided by the idea of creating a home that fully reflects an active lifestyle and personal interests, while also serving as a quiet pause in everyday life. 

Site Conditions
The site for “Han Jang Han Jang” in Suneung-ri has a level difference of about 1.5 to 2 meters from the front road, so access is made by way of a sloped approach. The existing aged stone retaining wall and boundary wall appeared to require repair and reinforcement with a reinforced soil retaining wall. 
Because of its location at the foot of the mountain, the site offered the advantage of open views and abundant sunlight. To make the most of these conditions, the building was placed as far back on the site as possible. This created a wide front yard that acts as a buffer between the house and the outside environment, while also serving as an open space for the client and her dog Suni to enjoy a variety of activities. 
Considering that a retaining wall also adjoins the rear side due to the sloped terrain, the main living spaces such as the living room, bedroom, and study were placed toward the front. This helped reduce the visual heaviness of the rear retaining wall while fully taking advantage of the site’s open views. 

House Planning
“Han Jang Han Jang” was intended to be more than just a place to live. It was meant to become a space where one could fully experience the changing seasons and the surrounding landscape. The client wanted a convenient entrance connected directly from the parking area into the house, as well as a generous storage room for camping and exercise equipment. The kitchen and utility room were planned as an efficient, connected zone to improve household circulation, while large windows were placed so that the yard and nature could be seen from anywhere inside. Carefully planned colors and lighting in each space add a strong emotional quality to the house. 
For the exterior, red-toned brick was selected as the main material so that the house could gently blend into the village landscape. The brick changes its expression depending on the time of day and the angle of light, and at sunset it takes on a deeper and warmer tone, giving the whole house a welcoming feeling. The same material was extended to the garage wall, creating visual continuity so that outside and inside feel connected as one flow rather than separate spaces. 
The mass of the house was carefully divided according to its internal functions, while a single roofline was used to unify the whole composition. The movement from the garage to the entrance, through the storage area and into the house, is clear and natural, almost like walking along a path. 

Spatial Features
Upon entering the house, the study is the first space one encounters, and it offers an unexpected contrast to the overall mood of the home. The orange walls and ceiling bring creative energy into the room, while the deep green curtains create a bold color contrast and complete its artistic atmosphere. In particular, the corner window opens the view in two directions, capturing the changing seasons like a panorama. As the curtains are adjusted, the amount of light shifts throughout the day, subtly changing the mood of the room. 
The large living room window actively draws the changing seasons into the interior. In spring, soft sunlight fills the room, while in winter, snowy scenes enter the living space through the view of the yard. The kitchen combines elegant green tiles with a slatted sliding door, creating a calm yet refined focal point. Together with white-toned cabinetry, the kitchen connects smoothly with the utility room, making the household circulation more efficient. 
The main bedroom is wrapped in deep green walls, creating an immediate sense of psychological comfort and calm. On the side facing outside, a wooden fence was installed to ensure privacy, while the bedroom connects naturally to the dressing room so that this private zone flows as one continuous space. 
The yard beside the living room is another main character of the house, designed especially for Suni, the family dog. The covered outdoor area beneath the roof acts like an eave, offering shelter from rain and snow, while the deck and lawn connect the interior and exterior freely. From the living room, one can watch Suni running across the yard, allowing the daily lives of the owner and her dog to naturally overlap. 
The carefully arranged lighting inside and outside the house changes its expression depending on the time and the weather. Recessed lighting beneath the roof softly illuminates the yard at night, while wall lights placed rhythmically along the exterior bring out the texture of the building. With their warm color temperature, the lights gently embrace the house even in darkness, giving the impression that the house itself is breathing.
